Fire Prevention

Fireproofing your thatched roof

Protect your thatched roof from fire by employing us to treat your thatch with a fire retardant.

Ensuring quality of application, our skilled applicators will apply a specialised fire retardant to your thatched roof.

Fireproofing your thatched roof is essential for commercial buildings including pubs, hotels, and public buildings too.

Thatched Roof

Our Fire Treatment Service is currently Suspended due to Supplier and Certification issues.

After application of the Fire Retardant a treatment certificate is issued with a validity of 5 years. You can present this certificate to your Fire Officer and/or to your Insurance Company. The treatment certificate is issued after full payment of the service, and any related extras, if applicable. Check out our services page for inspection, repair and maintenance information.

The Fire Retardant is a non-toxic, biodegradable, odourless and colourless flame-retardant treatment for thatched roofs. The Fire Retardant is sprayed onto your thatched roof by trained applicators. The Thatch Fire Retardant continues to be effective for a period of at least 5 years. Contact Us to book your Fireproofing.

For optimal effectiveness Fire Retardant should be applied to new, or recently maintained thatched roofs. Your roof should be inspected prior to the treatment and any necessary maintenance and repairs should be undertaken before Fireproofing begins. Contact Us for more information.

If you have a commercial building your fire officer will want a new certificate once the 5 year time limit is reached. Contact Us for a roof inspection so we can evaluate what may need to be done before re-treatment. Visit our services page for annual inspection information.

Our Fire Treatment Service is currently Suspended due to Supplier and Certification issues.

Before booking your Fire Retardant application please be aware of the following:

  • Your roof should be in a reasonable condition before we can apply the Fire Retardant.
  • If you book our Fireproofing Service we will assume your roof is in good order. If we arrive to site and the roof needs additional works, including repairs and maintenance, then additional costs will apply. Delays/rescheduling may also apply.
  • If any maintenance is required prior to the application of the Fire Retardant we may be able to offer an estimate of the cost, and an estimated date to undertake the maintenance. Due to time restraints and prior bookings we cannot guarantee additional services can be undertaken.
  • Access to all areas of the roof is required.
  • The weather can delay/hamper the Fire Retardant application so flexibility is required, and patience too, at times. Wet weather and windy weather are not ideal.
  • We supply all equipment to access your roof to complete the task.
  • Our services are subject to availability.
  • A 50% Deposit is required 4 weeks prior to the estimated application date. Balance is due upon completion of the task. The treatment certificate will be issued once the Fireproofing is completed, and the final invoice (including any extras, if applicable) has been settled.
  • Any mutually agreed extra works, if applicable, including repairs and/or maintenance, must be paid for upon completion. These additional works will be outlined in a written quotation prior to commencement.
  • When contacting us please supply your Eircode, measurements, plus recent images of the building, the roof, and its surrounds.
  • Costs for this Fireproofing Service will vary due to the size of the roof, the complexity of the roof, ease of access, and distance to travel/location.
