Why apply

Bluestone?

An annual Bluestone Treatment can deter insects which may choose to make your thatched roof their home.

Where insects exist, birds will rummage through the thatch hunting for their next meal. Birds can make holes as they prod, pull out reeds, and attempt to dig beneath the surface of your thatched roof.

By keeping the insects away with an annual application of Bluestone there will be no food for the birds, so no need for them to go near your thatch.

An annual Bluestone Treatment can prevent the growth of moss, fungi and Algae on the surface of your thatched roof.

While not always damaging to your roof these growths can be unsightly. Algae and fungi can hold water so your roof takes much longer dry out where these growths exist. This can create rot and damage in patches.

With necessary maintenance the lifespan of your thatched roof can be extended.

Before booking your annual Bluestone Treatment please be aware of the following:

  • Your roof should be in a reasonable condition before we can apply the Bluestone.
  • If you book our Bluestone Service we will assume your roof is in good order. If we arrive to site and the roof needs additional works, including repairs and maintenance, then additional costs will apply. Delays/rescheduling may also apply.
  • If any maintenance is required prior to the Bluestone Treatment we may be able to offer an estimate of the cost, and an estimated date to undertake the maintenance. Due to time restraints and prior bookings we cannot guarantee additional services can be undertaken.
  • Access to all areas of the roof is required.
  • The weather can delay/hamper your Thatched Roofs Bluestone Treatment so flexibility is required, and patience too, at times. Wet weather and windy weather are not ideal.
  • We supply all equipment to access your roof to complete the task.
  • Our services are subject to availability.
  • Payment in Full is required 4 weeks prior to the estimated application date (as per Quotation/Invoice).
  • Any mutually agreed extra works, if applicable, including repairs and/or maintenance, must be paid for upon completion. These additional works will be outlined in a written quotation prior to commencement.
  • When contacting us please supply your Eircode, measurements, and recent images of the building, the roof, and its surrounds.
  • Costs for this Bluestone Treatment will vary due to the size of the roof, the complexity of the roof, ease of access, and distance to travel/location.
